Notification Code H38: Primary Hood Latches - May 14, 2009

Recall? Already?

Less than a month after we drove away in our brand new 2009 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, we received a letter in the mail from Chrysler. The letter was labeled “Notification Code H38 – Primary Hood Latches.” It was our first recall.

We called our dealer to let them know we received the notice. They told us they needed to order the proper parts for our Jeep Wrangler and scheduled us for an appointment the following week. We also scheduled our first oil change since we already had over 4,000 miles on our Wrangler.

Our first service experience at our local Chrysler dealer was a good one. Everyone we talked to was friendly and helpful. Within an hour after dropping off our Jeep Wrangler, we were back inside and on our way home.

While we were there, we asked about the Wrangler hood latches and what was actually wrong with them. The service manager really didn’t know. He said it could have been a defect in the hood latch material which made them prone to breaking or just the fact that the black plastic wore rather quickly and now looked gray. Chrysler is all about customer satisfaction and wants to do everything they can to make sure their customers stay happy.

Here are some before and after photos of the Jeep Wrangler primary hood latches. As you can see, there’s not much of a difference between the two.
